Social responsibilities of multinational corporations Essay - 1
Social responsibilities of international corporations - Essay ExampleIn order to prove themselves right(a), and cover up their flaws in living up to their fond responsibility, a few multinational companies have taken different steps that reflect adherence to their social responsibility. In this paper, I will argue that most multinational companies have disregarded their obligations to respect human rights of their host countries, and have continued to violate human rights indirectly, as they take advantage on the weaknesses in their hosts government corpses, and lack of standard rights, while earning big profits in their host countries. Multinational corporations extend their payoff and marketing processes into different world regions. In the refreshful business environment, these multinationals have a great political and economic influence on the host countries. These go the resources and labour in these countries with an aim of making more profits. It has been argued that the multinational corporations in the developing countries do more harm than good and function there without a social conscience. Most multinationals have chosen to operate in more developing countries because the business standards and restrictions there are less tight as compared to those in the West (Arnold 156). Some scholars have argued that multinational corporations play an important role in the modernization and globalization processes. This argument bases on the fact that these introduce new technology and capital market in the host countries. If the host countries are developing nations, they benefit from all the western assets that the multinational corporations come with. Although the multinational corporations mightiness appear capitalistic, these serve the needs of the society, while pursuing their own interests. These corporations make maximum use of efficiency and productivity, with global operations, and help in the distribution of goods nigh the world. Some analy sts have therefore argued that since the multinational corporations have a great impact in the world, their activities, links to the governments, and their general influence on the international system needs to be known (Arnold 156). Trends in human rights continue to change today, and human rights issues have ceased to become matters of the state only. There are more multinational corporations today, and some of the concerns raised about human rights issues come from these corporations. Today, different multinational corporations have been involved in a number of cases concerning their violation of human rights in the host countries. This is not a new happening, as human rights violations by multinational corporations can be traced back to the eighteenth century. The non-governmental organizations today accuse multinational corporations of causing environmental degradation in the host countries, exploitation of offshore factory workers, and the denying employees their right to asso ciation and free speech. However, the multinationals argue that they have a right to influence the public policy of their host country. However, these have a negative influence on the countrys public policy, therefore, failing to fulfil their social responsibility (Arnold 155). According to Donaldson, the rights people take for granted in the United States are greatly violated in some countries, and citizens are denied these rights. For instance, results of an interview conducted in Central America in 1987,

Text analysis and report based on Gees discourse analytical approachIt - Essay ExampleThese render it interest to submit to a Discourse analysis. The analysis of the text edition shall be in accordance with the hypothesis by James capital of Minnesota Gee that interaction with text is necessarily a socially mediated process (St. Clair & Phipps, 200891). Actually, social context circumscribes not only words but other elements of communication, such as readings (Knoester, 2009, p. 677) and actions (Gee, 2005, p. 590). What we say, be interpreted by society based not only on the practice (what is actually said and done), but also on social or historical attributes (such as race or religion) and belief or ideology (Gee, 2005590).It is generally agreed that An Introduction to Discourse Analysis (Gee, 1999) is one of James Paul Gees truly significant treatise on the nature of Discourse, as acknowledged by Rodina (2007), Stibbe (2006), Jarvis (2006), Collins (2000), and Holmes (2000). On the other hand, Davies (2000), while lauding the simplicity and knack of approach of Gee in this book, stated that the latters informal writing style and simplicity of discussion tends to dilute the power of his message. The fundamental possibleness developed in this book is Gees seven building tasks for discourse analysis. The challenge of the exercise lies in not only relating the form and occasion of the text, but in finding specific form-function correlations that are in themselves juxtaposed with specific social practices indicative of social relationships (Gee, 200419). This paper shall attempt to apply this theory to the selection chosen for the purpose. The selection, Patrick Henrys speech on Liberty, hereto attached as Appendix A, is unmistakably intended to highlight the significance of Virginias participation in the war against the British colonizers, during the American Revolution. In fact, it is a particularly good example of making a mountain out of a molehill. Coming into the convention, it is easy to

The School of the Americas - Essay ExampleThe checks presence in the region represented the join States growing role in Latin America. With the signing of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (Rio Treaty) in 1947 (Bureau of Political-Military Affairs Washington, DC) the United States involvement in the region grew change surface more. Yet another name change came in 1949. The U.S. Army Caribbean School continued to train both U.S. and Latin American soldiers. In 1963 the school got its most(prenominal) notable name The School of the Americas (SOA). The SOA began training using Spanish only and controversy surrounding the school began. With the handing over of the crewman Canal to the government of Panama the school needed a new home. After much politicking, the Spanish speaking school was moved to Fort Benning, Georgia rather than Texas that had a Spanish speaking population (where the school thought was the most logical choice). In an August 1996 report sent to the Honorable Ronald V. ... The School of Americas thus played a part in this transition by providing Spanish language military training to Latin American countries that chose to send soldier-students.The School of the Americas closed in declination of 2000 after much controversy and reopened in January 2001 as the Western Hemisphere Institute for credential Cooperation as a result of the National Defense dictum Act.2. Training Provided. As stated earlier, The School of the Americas functioned as a Spanish language military school and continues as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation. It is interesting to note that the new school offers instruction (again in Spanish) in many of the same courses that the SOA did at the same location. The current school offers training to Latin American military personnel in courses such as2Civil-Military Operations CourseInformation Operations CourseDepartmental Resource ManagementHuman Rights teacher CoursePeace Operations Course The schools website claims that both courses listed are accredited at at least the baccalaureate level, students can receive credit for courses taken,3 and that all students receive at least eight hours of human rights training. As the SOA the school offered courses using manuals with such titles as4Human Resource Exploitation Training Manual-1983KUBARK Counterintelligence Interrogation-July 19633. The Controversy. As the SOA, the school came under scrutiny by various human rights groups because of the type of training provided to the Latin American students and the resulting human rights violations by SOA graduates. The United States was accused of training these soldiers to hold dear its economic interests in the region. CIA manuals used by

Employment Relations in Australia - Essay ExampleThe term discrimination refers to the choices and judgments we agnise every day.Similarly, employers discriminate in a way when recruiting staff. There will be many applicants, so employers need to pick out a choice. They choose the surpass person for the job by discriminating according to the applicants skills, experience, etc. These types of discrimination makes sense. But some types of discrimination are unfair and against the law. For example, a sensible employer does not make decisions about who to give a job establish on irrelevant personal characteristics, like someones race or gender. Discrimination can be based on disability, race, age, pregnancy and martial status. Surface and Interface States of Ga Compound Research Paper
Surface and Interface States of Ga Compound - Research motif ExampleThe paper discusses various issues related to the gallium compound semiconductors including both the interface and the turn up properties. It discusses the formation of the surface bow and the charges at the interface state when interfaced with various metals. Background Surface state Intrinsic and external A considerable number of clean semiconductor surfaces show signs of both intrinsic and extrinsic surface states. Surface states of materials piece of tail be defined as the electronic states that are found at the materials surface. Surface states are form as a result of the sharp transition from solid materials that terminates with the surface. Surface states are usually found close to the surface in the atomic layer. The changes of the electronic band structure to nihility from the bulk materials are caused by the surface material termination. After the termination of the surface material, a weakened potent ial is created at the surface which leads to the formation of new electronic states know as the surface state 3. The bands of the solid on the surface of semiconductor crystals get related to vacuum naught since it takes a considerable amount of energy to remove the electrons from the crystal to the vacuum. This due to the fact that the formation of crystal from far separate atoms lower the energy hence the high amount of energy involved in the electron removal. The chemical bonds at the surface of the crystal bring their periodic pattern stop at the surface which in turn results into unsaturated bonds 1. After the interruption, the unsaturated bonds then rearrange themselves through surface reconstruction which may be saturated by a layer of atoms. The re-arrangement of the saturated bonds results in changes in both the allowed energies and the surface crystal structure. The formation of surface states can be best exposit by Blochs Theorem which allows the wave vector usance t o be a complex number. In principle, an imaginary wave vector corresponds to a damped wave function which is exponential in nature. In perfect finite non physical crystal that does not experience periodicity violation and experiences a translational symmetrical arrest allowing wave vector with nonzero imaginary components 6. With the conditions fulfilled, it can therefore be shown that the resulting states are localized at the surface. The energies of the formed states are located at the surface which forms a separate band of surface states. The number of atoms per area at the surface of a crystal greatly determines the number of surface states per area of the crystal. The number of states can however be compromised of states in the crystal without boundary would have contributed to the conduction bands or the valence bands 5. In the case of intrinsic semiconductors, the number of filled surface states is equivalent to the number of electrons removed from the bulk valence band due to the change in neutrality. The filled surface states are considered donor like states effrontery that they have electrons that can be donated to the empty available states. Empty surfaces states on the other hand can be considered as acceptor like given that they have empty available surface states which can be occupied by electrons 3. Intrinsic surface states Intrinsic surface

Business Articles Review - Essay ExampleIn feminine cultures cooperation is more frequent which leads to people seeking the outdo joint outcome for society. A weakness of feminine culture is that people tend to be naively altruistic and sometimes get taken improvement of. Another negative aspect of feminine is that sometimes the economic expectations of such a society are too low. Participation of women in societies across the egg has increased during the past 60 years. A feminine culture does not necessarily increase the participation of women in economic and social life. I supposition that the article was well written and it pointed out a lot of important arguments in regards to masculinity and feminine. I consider the United States a masculine society. salwaysalize of this is the fact that there has never been a women president in the history of the United States. Women are still being held back into positions of power by the trumpery ceiling effect. Despite my opinion that the U.S is a masculine society the article mentions other cultures in the world in which women do not enjoy the akin freedoms and rights as in the U.S. In most Arab countries the women are seen as second class citizens. Men in Arab countries have all the power and women must go after the men at all times. In such a society women seldom hold positions of power such as managerial positions. ... Cultural barriers caused converse problems and conflicts and the team was very ineffective. Cultural differences can create substantial obstacles to effective teamwork-but these may be subtle and difficult to recognize until significant damage has already been done (Brett, Behfar, Kern, 2006, pg. 86). Work teams are supposed to be self-sufficient and managers should not intervene in interpersonal conflict because doing so is usually counterproductive and wastes blue-chip managerial time. It is imperative to avoid single culture approaches to solving problems among multicultural teams. Four types of challenges associated with multicultural teams are direct versus indirect communication, trouble with accents and fluency, differing attitudes toward hierarchy and authority, and conflicting norms for decisions. Some of the most effective strategies identified by the author to deal with conflict are adaptation, structural intercession, managerial intervention, and exit. Teamwork has become more important than ever in the workplace of the 21st century. Due to the rise of the globalization movement many multinational corporations are exposed to forming multicultural teams as part of the day to day business activities. These teams can bring tremendous benefits to a company because diversity helps foster innovation and creativity. I agree with the author that managerial intervention to solve internal conflict in a team is a strategy that should only be used as a last resort. The multicultural team is supposed to go through the same team formation stages of any team which are forming, storming, norming, and performing. An

Chameleons Organism Physiology Essay Example for Free
Chameleons Organism Physiology EssayWe know that an organism is anything that is living and can function by itself. This paper will dish up understand chameleons and how they have evolved to adapt to their surroundings. It will excessively discuss their physical haves inside and out. Myths and facts will be revealed, as well as a a couple of(prenominal) comparisons between wake upes. Though there atomic number 18 many species of chameleons, everything discussed will be in reference to them as a whole. Chameleons argon part of the reptile family. half of their population lives and originated from Madagascar. Others can be found in the Middle East, Europe, and India. Fossils show that chameleons have been around for more than 26 million years (Klappenbach, 2014). The two scientific names given to them are Brookesiini and Chamaeleonini. Their known life span is to be around five to nine years (Switch Zoo , 2013). They are omnivores and carnivores, so their fodder consists of insects, fruit, animals and flowers. There are also more than 135 different species of chameleons and six different subfamilies, which are Bradypodian, Brookesia, Calumma, Rhampolean, Chamaeleo, and Furcifer (Chameleons Online, 2002).The bulge underneath their tails can determine the sex of a chameleon visibly. This specie is commonly found in three types of habitats. The main one is the forest, where there are many trees and bushes for them to travel and hide. This is the same for scrublands, which is the spot habitat. It is common for chameleons to want to stay off the ground and higher up, but few do like to make home in fallen leaves and sticks in large open areas. The third habitat is the desert, and even though it is hot and dry, few chameleons can still survive. Chameleons possess many features that are critical to theirsurvival, i (Komeleons). The first and well-known feature is their kowtow color. Their skin helps them to blend into their environment, but also stand ou t. They are adapted to regulate their body temperature and communicate establish on the color of their skin. The important thing to know is that a chameleons skin color is a reflection of their feelings. When they feel threatened and shake they will turn a dull color like a grey or a brown. When they feel dominant and want to defend themselves or their territory they will turn bright colors to seem more intimidating. There is evidence that suggests that chameleons evolved to stand out not to blend in. The reason their skin is able to change so many colors is because there is a layer of different pigments underneath known as chromatophore cells. There are cardinal layers of skin cells that go in the order of yellow, red, blue, and brown in color. The color changing is from their hormones and not their nervous system. Females also change colors when they are gravid or want to warn away males. Though chameleons are not the only organisms that can change color, they are among the fas test that can. Next, are the eyes of a chameleon. Their eyes are large and sit on the side of their heads. They are able to move separately and almost view 360 degrees of their surroundings (Foden, 2014). They are also able to move their eyes around without moving their heads. Another feature is their tongue. A chameleons tongue can be one and a half times longer than their body. When it is not extended, it sits coiled inside of their neck. They are able to extend their tongues to catch insects without being noticed, and the insects stick to it making it easier to catch. The fourth feature of a chameleon is their feet. Each foot has five toes. The feet in the front has two toes going outward and three toes going inward, while the back feet are the opposite. Their feet help them to grip braches to climb and stay mobile. Lastly, is a chameleons tail. Their tail is utilise for gripping while moving and to maintain their balance. When a chameleon feels threatened they can coil it, or ro ll it up, to make them appear larger while defensive. The inner structure of chameleons is also important in survival, ii (Neumann). They consist of a heart, oesophagus, lungs, liver, intestine, fat bodies, gal bladder, kidney, and cloaca.Females also have ovaries and oviducts for reproduction. They have a skeletal system that includes a very unique and important bone, the hyoid, threesome (Terraristik). The hyoid is the bone that is connected to theirtongue. When chameleons extend their tongues you will notice that up close the bones outline is seen through the tongue. The hyoid is also used against predators when a chameleon feels threatened. They will push it down to extend their throat out to give the appearance that they are larger. It is clear to see that chameleons have evolved and are able to use many techniques to defend off predators. They are able to use their bodies to communicate with one another and express their feelings. Chameleons are also able to survive in normal and some extreme climates and habitats. The myth of chameleons being able to blend in with their surroundings has clearly been proven to be the totally opposite, as they change to stand out. In conclusion, there are many species of chameleons that have been around for many years, but they have evolved greatly over time.i (Komeleons)ii (Neumann)iii (Terraristik)ReferencesBishop, G. Caribbean Economy and Haitian revolution Essay Example for Free
Caribbean Economy and Haitian revolution EssayThe Revolution wrecked Haitis economy because it challenged the world as it was then. Slavery was the heart of a thriving system of merchant capitalism that profited Europe, devastated Africa, and propelled the expansion of the Americas. Independent Haiti had few friends. All the worlds powers sided with France against the self-proclaimed Black Republic which declared it a haven for runaway slaves. Hemmed in by slave colonies, Haiti had only unmatchable non-colonized neighbor, the slaveholding United States which refused to recognize Haitis independence for decades. The Haitian Revolution of 1789-1803 transformed French Saint Domingue, one of the most productive European colonies of its day, into an independent state run by former slaves and the descendants of slaves It produced the worlds first examples of wholesale emancipation in a major(ip) slaveowning society, of colonial representation in a metropolitan assembly, and of full ra cial equality in a European colony. It occurred when the Atlantic slave trade was at its peak, and when slavery was an accepted institution from Canada to Chile. The slave revolt that between 1791 and 1793 laid waste the immensely wealthy colony was probably the largest and sole fully triple-crown one there has ever been. Of all American struggles for colonial independence, the Haitian Revolution involved the greatest degree of mass mobilization, and brought the greatest degree of brotherly and economic change. In an age of tumultuous events and world war, it seized international attention with images of apocalyptic destruction and of a new world in the making. The Black Jacobins by Trinidadian intellectual C.L.R. James remains, although written in the 1930s, the best introduction to the subject.
